Happy Mother's Day!

Bonjour everybody!

How is your mother's day? I hope you all have a good day, as good as mine is. I must say, I feel a little guilty because my mother (and my father) are putting up my new furniture, which consists of my wardrobe, desk and chest of drawers, accompanied by my gorgeous bookcase! My mum says she would rather get it done and out the way, and then it'll make her "very happy to have it done and dusted" but I'm not convinced. I've tried to remove the hammer from her hands, but it just can't be done.

As for books, I have read one of my favourites since a long time; it made me laugh, it made my throat knot up, it made me gasp out loud, and it literally stops your heart ( in  a good way! ). So here we are:

TITLE:  Down the Rabbit Hole

AUTHOR:  Peter Abrahams

PAGES:   327

RATING:  4.5/5 stars

COMMENT:  I found this book on Good reads and I saw it had really positive reviews, so I decided to give it a go. Well, I'm so glad I did because you get all the common emotions in one - laughter, enjoyment, horror, suspense, sadness - and I highly recommend this book.

GENERAL PLOT:  This book is unbelievably witty, featuring lots of twists and turns in the storyline. It is based on a young teenager named Ingrid Levin-Hill, who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police are on the hunt for a killer, but thanks to Ingrid, they're on the entirely wrong tracks. Poor Ingrid is in the middle of this never ending nightmare. Like Alice in Wonderland, her extraordinary life is spiralling out of control.

So there it is! Now officially one of my favourite writers, Peter Abrhams has written at least a sequel for this book, and he has written a few adult books I keep meaning to read.

Anyway, have a great week ahead, and remember to read and have fun ( but mostly read:))

Until next time,

Good Evening!

HELLO!

IT is Wednesday 25th February, and today is going to be a fairly warm day and very sunny - hooray! It is (finally) verging on spring, and that means I am in a good mood.

So, today's book is :

TITLE:   And then He Kissed me - Stories of Love, Heartbreak and other Unnatural Disasters

AUTHORS:   Katie Dale / Cathy Kelly / Abby McDonald / Monica McInerney / Sinead Moriarty / Joanna Nadin / Adele Parks ? Madhvi Ramani / Dyan Sheldon / Sarah Webb

PAGES:   291

RATING: 4/5 stars

COMMENT:   These ten short stories (approximately 40 pages long or so) are outstanding. Naturally, some are better than others, but I genuinely did not sit there thinking, Oh wow! This story is total *BAD WORD*! However, I did find one or two I really did like - I loved EXTRACURRICULAR by Abby McDonald, and also STAR-CROSSED by Katie Dale.

GENERAL PLOT:  I can't really write a general plot today, but...

  1. A boy meets the girl of his dreams oh holiday, and teaches him to live life on the edge - only then does he realise why she does.
  2. A girl moves to a new school, where she finds bullies and cool gangs run the school. Well, as an ex-convent girl, she has to make things right.
  3. A shy geeky girl is somehow catching the eye of Charlie, the most popular boy in school. But can she trust him, when he changes girlfriends like he changes shoes.
  4. A girl has been secretly in love with her best friend since forever. But since then, their mothers' had a big fall-out, and they moved away. But, suddenly, he's back.
  5. A girl is on holiday to Spain when she allegedly meets the guy of her dreams, but is her knight in shining armour who she thought he would be?
  6. A girl falls head over heels for her perfect man, but should you sacrifice a friendship just to get what you want?
  7. A girly day out turns out to be a boys day out too, she meets a French exchange student, but is he all he's cracked up to be?
  8. An aspiring vet (with a phobia of dogs!) is helped by a fellow employee, a friendship grows, her phobia is attempted to tackle, and romance looms in the air.
  9. A boy and his crush (a.k.a his best friend) does all he can to make his feelings obvious. However, the girl is so excited for the school dance, she doesn't even notice.
  10. A girl and her pen-pal write letters to each other as part of a school assignment, followed by a big twist, and her pen-pal shows up in her town; now what will she do?

So there you are! Some really great story lines, with one or two common situations. I am sorry I haven't posted much lately, but the getting-back-into-school-routine hasn't been the easiest this week - sorry! I might post again tomorrow if I have time. Today we got a new seating plan in science, which wasn't too bad. I (just!) managed keeping up in ICT, and maths was equations on line graphs. History is so so so boring right now (African-American slavery) for 6 weeks now, and I HATE this topic. If other people find slavery interesting, then that's their opinion, but I personally don't find it that interesting or pleasant. In RE we just watched HORRIBLE HISTORIES for the entire lesson, so I'm not complaining! Overall, not a bad day really...

Until next time,

Introducing... THE BOOKWORM'S DAUGHTER!!!!!

Hello!

People of the Internet, today I am starting this blog for your entertainment (I hope!) and for mine too. I had a blog when I was younger, but got bored with it very quickly - however, now I'm back! It's good to be back because since then I have read a lot more books, have a stronger long-term relationship between my snazzy new computer, and a lot has happened in my life too. I am a teenager, so I will review teenage and young adult books, blogging about my life and so much more! You will also pick up on the fact that I use exclamation marks quite a bit - I swear, I do not actually sound this enthusiastic in person...

Today, I will start off with a book review! Here we go:

TITLE:  The Mysterious Benedict Society (Book #1)

AUTHOR:  Trenton Lee Stewart

PAGES:   473 ( small print)

RATING:  * * * * / * * * * *

COMMENT:  It takes a while to get going - but when it does, you are lost in a world of twists and tangles, quirky and adventurous, a magnificently- written book. I even found myself gasping out loud at certain points in the book!

GENERAL PLOT:   Four children with unusual talents are recruited for a top-secret mission. There is only one rule - there are no rules. How can they work together to save the world? A cracking adventure begins...

 AGE GROUP:   11-12 +

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, that's that for now. I'll be surprised if anyone is still reading - I've kind of bored myself right now. Anyway, this week I will be posting a lot, but in term time I will be posting only on weekends and some nights after school.

Ciao for now,
Lauren xx
